I'm feeling really reflective
I’ve never really put a lot of emphasis on the New Year, to me it was always just another day.  But 2011 is different.  I grew up a lot in 2011. I haven’t had the easiest life, but 2011 really took the cake for hardships.  Looking back on 2011, I can’t decide whether the year was a positive or a negative one. Like I said, a lot of horrible things happened, but they all taught...

Free Rides from AAA for Drunk Americans →
afunnyfeminist: Call 1-800-AAA-HELP and ask for Tipsy Tow to get a free tow and ride home, even if you’re not a AAA member. Some cities and states don’t participate, so find out what free services are available in your area. Please don’t drink and drive. Plan your way home ahead of time — when you’re sober.

Yes.  Also, I’m really disappointed that it’s come to have such a sexist connotation. It started out to describe women who said they “weren’t like other women”, and has become a name for just about any women ever. There’s a fine line between calling out women for internalized misogyny and perpetuating misogyny yourself.

Not having a car in 21st century suburban America...
I am trying to apply for jobs in the college city where I live. Every job opening I’m google mapping how far I would have to walk.  What would take me 5 minutes in a car would take me a half-hour to walk.  What would take me 10 minutes in a car would take me an hour to walk. It’s ridiculous. If you don’t have a car, you’re screwed.

It does not suddenly give you an edge of acid wit. It just makes you a tool. Just. Stop. Not to mention, it’s a tactic that has used against women to take away their credibility for ages; it’s...

lesbo-a-gogo: Yeah ‘heterosexist’ and ‘cissexist’ are still better words than ‘homophobic’ and ‘transphobic’ even if you think saying the term ‘phobic’ isn’t ableist, and here’s why Heterosexism affects all (or a great majority of) LGBT+/GSM people Are those people all homosexual?  No. Cissexism affects a great majority of people who are gender non-conforming. Are those people all trans?...

Anonymous asked: Actually, the anon who sent the message about Australia's abortion laws is only partially correct - Victoria, one of the states, has some of the freest abortion laws in the world. They're legal on request up to 24 weeks and dependent on circumstances after that. A doctor who objects to abortion must refer the person on to someone who doesn't, and even if they object they're...

The conditions on how it has been liberalised varies for each state, but most states will require someone to get one or two doctors letters confirming that they require an abortion (which is problematic for a myriad of reasons). I have a question for you. For as long as I can remember (and much, much longer than that), it has been unacceptable to change clothes in front of the opposite gender. I was thinking maybe it had to do with sexuality issues or something rather than gender issues since we live in a heterosexual society. But what about women who are lesbian, men who are gay? What is your opinion on this? Submitted...
