I have a wonderful, smart, talented, gorgeous little sister. She is seventeen. I want the world to be the kind of place where she doesn’t feel like she needs to diet or be thinner. I want her to be able to think about things other than whether she matches up to movie stars.
When we walked by a section of sports clothing in the mall, she stopped and touched the poster of the woman wearing a sports bra and said, “Ooo abs. I want abs.” When she says things like, “I know if I could just stop drinking soda it would totally change my body shape,” my heart breaks a little.
I want the world to be better for her. And that’s one of the reasons why I’m a feminist.
