Do you feel like gay guys are more apt to being feminists? I am very aware of all of this and I'm gay, and I feel like it might be because I just haven't ever fit the "straight" role so I didn't get conditioned into thinking like a sexist pig.

I had a sorta conversation about this once with a gay male friend.

We came to the conclusion that it’s easier for gay men to be feminists because homophobia is rooted in sexism. Society is uncomfortable with men who “act” like women because women are considered less than men, and society considers being attracted/having sex with men as “acting” like a woman. Therefore, to some extent gay men know what it’s like to experience being treated as less than for femininity.

We also realized that many gay men are close friends with women, making it easier to see women’s struggles with sexism.

That’s not to say that gay men don’t have male privilege or that they can’t be sexist, but I certainly think that sexism and homophobia are so related that it is easier for gay men to be feminists.
